Empowerment comes through not only education, but in countries such as India with a strong patriarchal system in place, through financial independence. However this becomes a circular and self-fulfilling cycle of poverty and entrapment – no education – no training or skills -no job – no independence.
The Angeli Foundation conducts workshops in villages, where traditional embroidery is specialty of the region.
Women already know the technique of embroidery, workshops are conducted to enhance their skills. Fabrics are delivered and collected from their homes so that they can work at their own pace. This enables many abused and under privileged women to empower themselves financially. Once the fabrics are collected from the villages, they are then turned into garments with the help of designers that work with The Angeli Foundation.
We have many case studies where, after receiving the training, women are enable to create a life of dignity for themselves, and in many cases have risen above the poverty level.
